Find the right finish for your home

Every driveway starts with the property beneath it: the existing surface, ground conditions, levels, access and drainage. We assess these before recommending a suitable construction and finish. Compare four options below to find a finish that suits your property.

Tarmac driveway completed by Irvine Surfacing

Tarmac driveways

A smooth, understated finish for everyday vehicle use, with the option of contrasting block or kerbed edging.

At your survey: We’ll check whether the existing construction can be resurfaced or needs replacing, along with levels and drainage.

Resin bound driveway completed by Irvine Surfacing

Resin bound driveways

A seamless aggregate finish with a choice of natural colours and no loose stone.

At your survey: We’ll explain the base and drainage requirements. Permeability depends on the complete construction, including a suitable base.

Block paving completed by Irvine Surfacing

Block paving

A choice of colours, patterns and borders for a traditional or contemporary driveway. Individual blocks can be replaced where needed.

At your survey: We’ll discuss layout, edging, joints and drainage. Standard block paving is not automatically permeable.

Light gravel driveway beside a stone cottage with stone wall edging

Gravel & shingle driveways

A natural loose-stone finish with a choice of colours and textures. Edging and the entrance layout help contain the stone.

At your survey: We’ll assess slope, access, base and drainage. Expect occasional raking and tidying as the stone moves under use.

Your driveway questions

How much does a new driveway cost?

The price depends on the area, existing construction, excavation, drainage, edging and chosen finish. Our free site visit lets us provide a quotation based on the work your property needs.

Do I need to choose a surface before getting a quote?

No. We can discuss tarmac, resin bound, block paving and gravel at your site visit, explain their practical differences and help you narrow down the suitable options.

Can you resurface my existing driveway?

An overlay may be possible where the surface and base are structurally sound. We check movement, cracks, levels and drainage first. Unsuitable construction needs addressing before a new surface is laid.

Will you assess drainage and vehicle access?

Drainage is considered as part of the driveway design. If you also need a new or altered vehicle access, we can discuss dropped kerb work and the relevant approval process.

How do I look after a new driveway?

Each surface needs appropriate care. We’ll explain when it can be used, routine cleaning and any maintenance relevant to the finish you choose.
