Tarmac driveway repair in Southampton
After 15 years of sinking, this shared driveway had developed a dip of approximately 350 mm. We rebuilt around 62 m², prepared new supporting layers, reset the utility covers and laid two courses of tarmac.
Our Tarmac Installation Process
A durable tarmac surface starts with the correct preparation, drainage and base construction. We assess every site individually and specify the work according to the intended use and expected vehicle traffic.
1. Site Survey & Planning
We assess the area, intended use, access, levels and drainage before recommending the appropriate construction.
2. Excavation & Preparation
Existing surfaces are removed where required and the area is excavated to the necessary levels.
3. Sub-Base, Drainage & Edging
A suitable sub-base is installed and compacted, with drainage, kerbs or block edging fitted where specified.
4. Tarmac Laying & Handover
The appropriate tarmac layers are laid and thoroughly compacted before the finished levels, edges and drainage are checked.
Can Tarmac Be Installed Over an Existing Driveway?
In some cases, a structurally sound existing tarmac or concrete surface may be suitable for resurfacing or overlay after the necessary inspection and preparation. Cracking, movement, unsuitable levels and drainage problems must be addressed before new material is laid.
Where the existing construction is failing or unsuitable, we will recommend excavation and the correct sub-base construction rather than covering a defective surface. This helps protect the appearance and long-term performance of the completed area.
